[30 years ago this week, Congress passed the groundbreaking gun control legislation known as the Brady Bill. So this week I’ll AmericanStudy a handful of key moments and layers to the debate over gun control and guns in American society, past and present!]
No
conversation about gun control and guns in American history (or law) can fail
to engage with the Constitution, the 2nd Amendment, and the Framing
era. I did so at length in
a Saturday Evening Post Considering
History column almost exactly four years ago, so in lieu of a new post
today I’ll ask you to check out that column to get a sense of the histories and
contexts I’d highlight and analyze from those foundational periods. See you
back here tomorrow!
Next gun
control history tomorrow,
Ben
PS. What do
you think? Histories or contexts you’d highlight?
