I was going to focus in this fourth and final post on reimagining moments in our history through a cross-cultural lens on the Civil War, and specifically on African American soldiers and civilians during and after it—but one of our greatest bloggers, both on the Civil War and on issues of race in American identity, beat me to it. So here’s Ta-Nehisi Coates’ story on African Americans and the Civil War, published in the latest issue of The Atlantic:
