Walter initially believes himself to be a failure, as he measures the value of his life through the typical "white picket fence" mentality. By the end of the play, he realizes that the American Dream is subjective, and fighting against social injustice is more important than wealth.<br /><br />Also, I saw this play on Broadway earlier this year.
